SpillSorb

Natural porous absorbent scattered over a spill to coagulate it into a recoverable mass.

Key Features

  • Total absorption of oils, diesel, petrol, paraffin and other hydrocarbon liquids
  • Proprietary highly porous crystalline structure for exceptional absorbency
  • Works on both open-water and solid-surface spills
  • Desiccating and cationic action eliminates odour rather than masking it
  • Natural and inert material in its unused state
  • Coagulates absorbed spill into a contained, collectable mass
  • Collected material can be fully remediated with GEARTH EcoSpill rather than landfilled
  • Applies with nothing more than a broom and a collection method

Applications

  • Clean-up of oil spills and liquid hydrocarbons in harbours, on beaches, and in rivers and dams
  • Petrol service stations, refineries, workshops and airports
  • Mop-up operations at road and airport accident scenes and hazardous material spill sites
  • Animal feedlots and poultry coops where hygiene and odour control are paramount
  • Septic tank and sewer overflow clean-up operations
  • Cleaning and odour suppression of carpeting and furniture contaminated by decaying organic matter or animal excretions
  • Oil and fat clean-up following cooking, a braai or barbecue

How to use SpillSorb

Scatter SpillSorb straight onto the spill. All you need is a broom and a way to collect it. On water, the powder coagulates the oil into a mass that you recover before or after it sinks.

  1. Solid surfaces, scatter: scatter a layer of SpillSorb directly onto the spill.
  2. Wait: give the powder a short time to start absorbing the liquid and the odour.
  3. Sweep: sweep the powder back and forth over the spill with a broom or brush. Each pass should visibly reduce the spilt liquid.
  4. Re-apply if saturated: if absorption stops, the first layer is saturated. Apply a second layer and continue.
  5. Collect: repeat until the spill is fully absorbed, then sweep or vacuum up the material and collect it.

About SpillSorb

SpillSorb soaks up oils, diesel, petrol, paraffin and other nuisance liquids, on water and on land. It is a natural absorbent powder with a highly porous crystalline structure that looks like the honeycomb of a sponge under a microscope. Its desiccating and cationic properties also remove odour from animal excretions and decaying organic matter instead of covering it up. Once the powder is saturated, remediate it with GEARTH EcoSpill instead of sending it to landfill.

Where SpillSorb is used

Service stations, workshops and airports

Fuel and oil spills on forecourts, workshop floors and aprons, absorbed and swept up with a broom.

Harbours, beaches, rivers and dams

Oil and hydrocarbon spills on water, coagulated into a contained mass for recovery.

Accident scenes and hazmat spills

Mop-up at road and airport accident scenes and hazardous material spill sites.

Farms, sewage overflows and odour

Feedlots and poultry coops, septic and sewer overflow clean-up, and carpets or furniture affected by decaying organic matter or animal excretions.

Pack sizes

Keep a pack sized to the spills you are likely to face on site.

5 kg

Workshops, service stations and kitchens, for drips and small spills.

20 kg

Depots, refineries, airports and spill-response kits for larger incidents.

SpillSorb: frequently asked questions

Does SpillSorb work on water?

Yes. It absorbs oil on water and coagulates it into a contained mass that eventually sinks, leaving clean water above. Recover the mass, or treat the spill in sections and contain it before it sinks.

What do I do with the used powder?

Remediate it with GEARTH EcoSpill, which digests the absorbed hydrocarbons, instead of sending it to landfill.

What if the powder stops absorbing?

It has become saturated. Apply a second layer and keep sweeping until the spill is fully absorbed.

Does it deal with odour too?

Yes. Its desiccating and cationic properties remove odour from animal excretions and decaying organic matter rather than masking it.
