HarvestSan Chips

Water and surface disinfectant for post-harvest washing, potable, effluent and irrigation water.

Key Features

  • SANS 1827 and SANS 1853 certified for water
  • High 65% to 68% active ingredient content
  • Solid product: preserves active ingredients for extended shelf life
  • Kills 99.999% of Listeria in 60 seconds
  • Strict pH control of 6.5 to 7.5 maximises the presence of hypochlorous acid molecules for the highest possible kill rate
  • Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a far more efficient biocide than the hypochlorite ion (ClO⁻)
  • Minimises release of irritating and potentially hazardous chlorine gas
  • Supplied as chips: compressed chips for automated erosion feeders and inline dosing systems requiring controlled dissolution
  • The typical control disinfectant in CRI alternative-disinfectant trial work
  • Manufactured in South Africa using modern, high-quality processes

Applications

  • Post-harvest washing of fruit and vegetables
  • Disinfection of potable, effluent and irrigation water
  • Supply water for beverage and bottling plants
  • Poultry spin chillers
  • Sanitising of animal carcasses
  • Disinfection and cleaning of equipment and utensils in the food and farming industry
  • Hard-surface cleaning of processing facilities, coops, farming facilities and aviaries
  • Livestock and agriculture applications

How to use HarvestSan Chips

Always add HarvestSan to water, never water to HarvestSan, and hold the wash water between pH 6.5 and 7.5 for best results. The chips dissolve gradually through an erosion feeder or inline doser.

  1. Dose: add the product to water to dissolve it. Never add water to the product; reversing the procedure is unsafe.
  2. Control pH: keep wash water between pH 6.5 and 7.5, so the active stays in its most effective form, hypochlorous acid.
  3. Protect: wear gloves. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and mucous membranes, and do not inhale the concentrated product.
  4. Do not blend: never mix HarvestSan with other products.
  5. Handle packaging: keep the product in its original packaging, firmly closed, in shade, in a dry, well-ventilated area away from foodstuffs and other chemicals. Dry the packaging before discarding and do not reuse it.

About HarvestSan Chips

HarvestSan Chips disinfects post-harvest wash water for fruit and vegetables, supply and process water, and hard surfaces, equipment and processing facilities. It is a high-strength calcium hypochlorite disinfectant with 65% to 68% active content. The chips are compressed for automated erosion feeders and inline dosing systems that need controlled dissolution. The chemistry is identical to HarvestSan Granular, so choose by the dosing equipment on site.

Where HarvestSan Chips is used

Post-harvest washing

Fruit and vegetable wash water in packhouses, dosed continuously through an erosion feeder with the pH held at 6.5 to 7.5.

Potable, effluent and irrigation water

Disinfecting supply and process water, including supply water for beverage and bottling plants.

Poultry and meat processing

Poultry spin chillers and sanitising of animal carcasses.

Farm and processing hygiene

Disinfecting equipment and utensils, and hard-surface cleaning of processing facilities, coops, farming facilities and aviaries.

Pack sizes

HarvestSan Chips is supplied in one bulk size for dosing equipment.

25 kg

Packhouses, bottling plants and farms running automated erosion feeders or inline dosers.

HarvestSan Chips: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between HarvestSan Chips and Granular?

The chemistry and active content are identical. Chips suit automated erosion feeders and inline dosing that need controlled dissolution; granular suits manual and volumetric dosing and batch dosing of wash tanks.

Why does the wash water pH matter?

Between pH 6.5 and 7.5 the active stays mainly as hypochlorous acid, a far more efficient biocide than the hypochlorite ion.

How should HarvestSan be mixed?

Always add the product to water. Never add water to the product, and never mix it with other products.

How should it be stored?

In its original packaging, firmly closed, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, shaded area below 25 °C, away from foodstuffs and other chemicals.
